Effects of Conversation Politeness on Hiring Decision in Online Labor Markets: An Inverted U-Shaped Relationship Exploration

This study examined the effect of politeness, as a key reflection linguistic features conversation in online labor marketplace, on hiring behavior. Drawing politeness theory, non-linear relationship was theorized. A hypothesis put forward and against large-scale archival dataset from Chinese market. Using an econometric model, results demonstrated that there inverted U-shaped between decisions. The offers theoretical implications to market literature theory by providing empirical insights role decision. In addition, our findings offer beneficial practical contributions for vendors platform operators.
